Artist's Record (Biography)

While born in Austria in 1941, my exposure and engagement with Art started when I went through 3.5 years engraver apprenticeship from 1955 to 58. Later, after having been in Canada for several years, I attended lessons in design, drawing, painting and art -history in Zurich from 1963 to 1965 but I consider myself basically a self-educated artist. During the following years - until 1968 - I supplemented my income as an independent artist. I was strongly influenced by the Abstract Expressionism of the postwar period in those initial years. Subsequently (after 1968), due to economic considerations, I primarily engaged in other activities and did not pursue a career as an artist for more than two decades. Therefore, during this period, the output of artwork was limited, albeit never entirely discontinued. In 1993 I decided to work exclusively as a painter and set up a studio in South Florida .

Within the last five decades I have stayed for extended periods of time (always many years) apart from my native Austria in Canada, Switzerland and the USA where I reside since 15 years and I traveled primarily the Mediterranean (Italy, Greece, France and Spain) very intensively. Influences from the cultural and historic heritage of those countries are evident in my artwork like for instance in the Land- and Seascape-paintings and the depictions of historic Key West Houses where I try to capture the incredible light and hues of tropical Florida.

Many of my recent works are explicitly naturalistic, but I am also continuing to create purely abstract paintings in Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor and Mixed-media. My works are in numerous corporate and private collections and have been shown in the following renowned Galleries in recent years (to name but a few).
